BLU Products is a company well-known for offering Android phones at aggressive prices, and recently it revealed that it’s teaming up with another major mobile player.
BLU and Foxconn have come together to create a new strategic initiative. The goal is to grow BLU’s presence among US carriers using smartphones in the sub-$250 market, which make up around 40% of the entire US smartphone market.
These carrier-focused phones will be built by Foxconn while production of BLU’s unlocked devices will be determined on a case-by-case basis to start. Gradually, Foxconn will participate more and more in BLU’s complete device roadmap.
“As BLU aims for growth, particularly targeting US Carrier business, we recognize the technical expertise FIH provides in terms of quality, engineering, and manufacturing thus by greatly improving our product offering to consumers.” said BLU CEO Samuel Ohev-Zion. “Our plan is to immediately launch new smartphone devices co-developed with FIH for both US Carrier and Unlocked Retail customers by Q3 of 2020.”
While BLU did launch the BLU View 1 on Tracfone last year, the company primarily sells its devices unlocked and direct to consumers. Most US consumers still buy their phones from their carriers, though, and so getting its devices into carrier stores could be a source of growth for BLU.
