Huawei Mate 30 event confirmed for September 19

Huawei Mate 30 event teaser

The list of new flagship smartphones launching this fall has grown again.

Huawei has confirmed that the Mate 30 series will be introduced on September 19 in Munich, Germany. A teaser video posted to Twitter shows a silver circle that could be a hint at the Mate 30’s camera capabilities.

Details on the Huawei Mate 30 are light, but a poster shared by well-known leaker Ice Universe appears to show a phone with four rear cameras, up from three rear cams on the Mate 20. We can also see a notch at the top of the display.

One of the features we’re most looking forward to learning about the Mate 30 is what software it’ll run. A Google spokesperson recently said that the Huawei Mate 30 cannot be sold with Google’s licensed Android apps and services due to the U.S. trade ban on Huawei. That means no Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, or other Google apps.

It’s possible Huawei could use the AOSP version of Android, but that could frustrate some folks who see Android and expect Google apps but then don’t find any. Huawei also has its own HarmonyOS software, but the company has said that it plans to use HarmonyOS on smart screen devices first.
