iPhone 12 may ship with Apple 20W power adapter

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max both come with 18W USB-C wall chargers, making them the first iPhones to ship with something faster than Apple’s 5W wall charger. If new leaks are to be believed, Apple may be prepping an event faster charger for this year’s iPhones.

New images that purportedly show a 20W USB-C PD power adapter made by Apple have leaked. Shared by Twitter user Mr-white, the 20W charger looks similar in shape to the 18W power adapter that’s included with the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, but we can clearly see a “20W” printed next to the prongs. It’s said that this 20W power adapter will be included with the iPhone 12.

Meanwhile, it appears that this charger may have been certified by Norway’s NEMKO organization. A USB-C power adapter with the model number A2305 and an output of 20W has appeared in the NEMKO database (via MySmartPrice).

iPhone 12 20W charger certification NEMKO

Another Apple charger with the model number A2247, 20W output, and USB-C PD support has also gotten certification from groups in Norway and Australia. However, it’s unclear how the two chargers are different.

After Apple stuck with 5W power adapters for the iPhone for so many years, it’s good to see the company finally including some speedier wall chargers with its devices. It’s not known which iPhone 12 models might include this 20W charger, but it seems likely that at least the two Pro models would get it. Hopefully the two non-Pro versions get it, too.
