It was confirmed last year that the Nokia 1 would be updated to Android 10, and today that update has officially begun rolling out.
Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, confirmed today that the Nokia 1 is now being updated to Android 10 (Go Edition). The update is going out in waves to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Here are the countries that are getting the update first:
Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam
HMD Global says that 10% of these markets will get the Nokia 1’s Android 10 update today. Half of them will get the update by July 10 and 100% of them will get it on July 12.
The update to Android 10 (Go Edition) brings with it speed and security improvements. Google has said that apps launch 10% faster compared to Android 9 (Go Edition), and security is better thanks to Google’s new Adiantum encryption that doesn’t compromise performance.
HMD Global has a pretty strong track record with Android OS updates, and it’s good to see that continue even with entry-level devices like the Nokia 1. Sometimes low-cost devices like these don’t get any major updates, but today owners of the Nokia 1 that was released in 2018 are getting just that.
The Android 10 (Go Edition) update for our affordability champ, Nokia 1 (2018) is now rolling! Get ready to upgrade your entry-level smartphone experience to a new level.
