Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge get new security update, four years after launch

Galaxy S7 edge review

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge may be getting a bit long in the tooth, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped getting software updates.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge began receiving a new security update in several parts of the globe over the last week. SamMobile notes that both phones are now receiving the March 1, 2020 Android security patches, which is a newer security update than some much more recent flagships are running.

The new update for the Galaxy S7 should be version G930FXXS8ETC1 or something similar, while the Galaxy S7 edge’s update is version G935FXXS8ETC1 or similar.

There’s no word yet on if these updates include any other improvements, but considering their sub-100MB size, it’s likely that the security patches are just about the only thing included in the updates.

Security updates like this may not be the most exciting things ever, but it’s good to see Samsung continuing to support its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge flagships that originally launched in 2016¬†with new security patches. With updates like this, folks who are still rocking an S7 or S7 edge can continue to do so, knowing that they’ve got the latest security patches to keep their phone and the data on it safe.
