Today T-Mobile was hit with one of the more serious network outages we’ve seen in recent memory, but it looks like it’s finally cleared up.
Neville Ray, T-Mobile’s President of Technology, just announced that “voice and text services are now restored.” This comes a little more than 12 hours after the outage began.

T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert has shed a bit more light on what caused the outage, saying that it was an “IP traffic related issue” that caused “significant capacity issues in the network core”. The issues began just after 12:00 pm ET, Sievert explains, and they affected customers in markets across the US.
Because data services were working for many T-Mobile customers, lots of folks were still able to communicate with their friends and family using services like FaceTime, iMessages, Google Meet, Zoom, and Skype. Still, calling and texting are pretty important services and today’s network issues likely caused a headache for a lot of T-Mo subscribers.
In other T-Mobile network outage news, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai tonight called T-Mo’s outage “unacceptable” and said that the FCC will be launching an investigation into the matter. “We’re demanding answers — and so are American consumers,” Pai added.
